The Focused Freewrite A starting point for most of our discussions.

• Get out a pen and paper.
• Write until the timer goes off about the question(s) on the screen.
• Your job is to keep your hand moving no matter what. Write "blah blah blah" if you have to. Just keep writing words until the timer goes off.
• It's not supposed to be good, and we're not turning it in.

Our goal: introduce yourself to the class by describing an object or space that communicates something about who you are. Don't say anything about yourself directly. Do describe your object or space in a way that describes you indirectly.

Take a few minutes just to brainstorm--think about what you might choose and what you might want to say about it. The next step will be producing something polished to share.
