Open Dyslexic
People with dyslexia see things differently. One of the effects of that difference is that it’s hard to distinguish very similar symbols when they’re very close together—which is exactly what we’re doing when we read. Our alphabet makes reading harder for dyslexics, and most typefaces (fonts) don’t do anything to help that.
Open Dyslexic is an open-source typeface by Abelardo Gonzalez. It’s been designed to make the letters easier for dyslexic brains to tell apart, based on scientists’ research into what causes dyslexia. Clicking on the “Dyslexic” button in the menu will change anything on this site into Open Dyslexic, and clicking again will change it back. For those of us who aren’t dyslexic, it probably won’t make much difference. But to those who are, hopefully it’ll help. If it’s helpful to you, you can download it here to use on your computer. Gonzalez also has some browser extensions and scripts that will let you use Open Dyslexic on any webpage you like.
Let me know if this is a useful thing.
